Accent Reduction for Doctors and Medical Professionals

Communication skills are essential for the effective practice of medicine and clear communication between medical professionals and patients is vital for effective patient care. 

 

This Accent Reduction program for Doctors and Medical Professionals will assist overseas trained doctors and other medical professionals to improve their Australian English pronunciation and understanding of typical Australian expressions often used by patients. 

 

Program Details

 

This specially designed program for overseas trained medical professionals, will enable participants to develop clear communication skills to enhance their working relationships with patients and colleagues.    The goal of accent modification training is not to eliminate your accent, but to improve your communication skills in English. You will learn how to change your speech pronunciation patterns and with practice and guidance, you will be able to communicate more clearly and successfully with patients and colleagues.

 

Participants will complete an accent evaluation and have their results analysed. A program will then be designed which will address specific problematic areas of pronunciation. A coaching program will be conducted which will cover the following:-

 

- Pronunciation of your problematic sounds
- Techniques to improve your clarity of speech
- Speech rate
- Use of intonation
- Vocal quality
- Grammatical errors
- Conversing with patients - including consultations, examinations, giving instructions
- Medical vocabulary
- Australian English colloquial language



Each participant receives full support and ongoing personal feedback.

Each program includes a comprehensive set of materials and weekly homework tasks.

 

 

Delivery Options

 

You can choose to study the Accent Reduction Program for Doctors and Medical Professionals in the following ways:-

 

- intensive one-to-one face-to-face workshops held over 1 or 2 days (week days or weekends)

      (One-to-one workshops held in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, Canberra, Darwin)

 

- 12 weekly online live coaching sessions held one-to-one with your pronunciation trainer

Results

 

Each participant completes an accent evaluation prior to commencement of their program.  Upon completion of the program, the participant will have their accent assessed again.  The results are then compared to the initial assessment so the extent of their improvement can be determined.  Past comparisons show that a student who attends all the appropriate sessions and practices diligently as directed in their homework program, can expect to experience at least a 50% improvement in their accent or dialect.
