The Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) is an English language test that measures the everyday English skills of people working in an international environment.
The TOEIC test results are recognised by thousands of business corporations world-wide. In fact statistics show that more than 5 million TOEIC tests were administered in 2008 alone. Businesses, governments and learning institutions use the test as a tool to help them employ the most suitable applicant.
The test assesses English language skills that are used in day-to-day life and the workplace. It uses everyday vocabulary, expressions and phrases to test how people would respond to real-life situations.
There are 4 different sections of the TOEIC test. Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
The listening test has 4 parts and students answer 100 questions on a variety of statements, questions, short conversations and short talks recorded in English.
The reading section has 3 parts that include sentence completion, error recognition and reading comprehension questions.
The speaking test has 11 questions and includes reading, describing, responding to questions, expressing opinions and problem solving. The writing test has 8 questions and includes writing sentences based on pictures, responding to requests and an essay. This test takes approximately 60 minutes.
The TOEIC test is used to provides information about the English language ability of speakers across a range of areas.
